Textile Science: Fibers, Fabrics, and Sustainable Fashion
In this book, textile science was explained from fiber level structure to fabric performance and sustainable fashion practice. Natural and synthetic fibers were described through properties such as fineness, strength, moisture behavior, thermal comfort, and durability. Yarn formation and fabric construction were introduced, including weaving, knitting, and nonwoven methods, and links were made between structure and functions such as drape, stretch, abrasion resistance, and color fastness. Dyeing, printing, and finishing were discussed with attention to performance testing and quality control. Sustainability was addressed through lifecycle thinking, responsible sourcing, safer chemistry, water and energy reduction, recycling, and circular design strategies. Practical guidance was provided for material selection and product development so that balanced decisions on performance, cost, and environmental impact can be supported.
