This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to analyze political education through social media among college students in Tumkur District, Karnataka. The quantitative component involves a stratified random sampling of 400 students from various colleges, using an online questionnaire to gather data on social media usage, political knowledge, and participation levels. Qualitative insights are obtained through 20 semi-structured interviews. Data analysis includes descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, correlation analysis, and multiple regression for quantitative data, while thematic analysis is used for qualitative data. The research framework is grounded in media system dependency theory and the participatory culture framework, examining how social media engagement influences political knowledge and participation. This comprehensive methodology allows for a nuanced understanding of the complex interplay between social media usage and political engagement among students in a semi-urban Indian context, addressing both the breadth and depth of the research questions.
